Digital Humanities. What assumptions govern how they work? The Digital Humanities program is the curricular arm of DH at UCLA, offering a certificate for graduate students and a minor for undergrads. The Digital Humanities program prepares students to work in this new environment, providing them with knowledge about the tools, methods, and theoretical issues central to the emerging field.

A lot of different things! Equipped with digital technology, scholars are rethinking research, publication, and pedagogy. The Spring 2019 Digital Humanities STE was co-led by Chris Johanson ... participants interrogated the existing lecture/seminar structure at UCLA and discussed ways to potentially adapt or transform it.

Launched in 2011, the DH Minor currently enrolls about 150 undergraduates from many different majors. The Digital Humanities minor is intended to provide students with literacy in creating, interpreting, and applying the technologies of the digital world. Over the last decade, humanistic research and teaching has changed.

On acceptance to the minor, students are expected to identify an academic area of digital humanities in which they intend to concentrate. We accept applications all year. Thorough documentation – in the form of project briefs, data critiques, project write-ups, and final websites – accompanies all research and learning. Students in the DH program learn about text analysis, data mining, visualization, modeling and simulation, geospatial analysis and mapping, multi-media storytelling, information design, network analysis, interface design,... Are you interested in the Digital Humanities Minor, but are not sure how it will fit into your four year plan? To apply for the minor, students must (1) have an overall grade-point average of 2.7 or better and (2) submit an application essay supporting their interest in pursuing the minor and enumerating any digital projects that they have already undertaken. Capstones are project-based collaborations and require students to publicly present their projects orally at the end of the year.
